This course takes you from a blank screen to shipping simple, responsive pages built with semantic HTML and modern CSS. It’s designed for true beginners and career switchers—no prior coding experience required.

  • Structure web pages with semantic HTML elements.
  • Create responsive layouts using Flexbox and Grid.
  • Apply typography, colour and spacing with CSS.
  • Use dev tools to inspect, debug and refine your pages.

You’ll be able to:

  • Rebuild simple marketing or landing pages from a brief.
  • Collaborate with designers using shared language and specs.
  • Publish your work to the web using modern hosting tools.

  • Module 1 — The structure of a web page
    HTML basics · head vs body · headings, paragraphs, links.

  • Module 2 — Semantic HTML
    Sections, nav, main, article, aside · accessibility basics.

  • Module 3 — CSS fundamentals
    Selectors, cascade, box model, typography, colour, spacing.

  • Module 4 — Flexbox & responsive layouts
    Flexbox, media queries, building a responsive layout.

  • Module 5 — Project: one-page site
    Build, polish and publish a simple one-page marketing site.

  • Basic computer skills (files, folders, copy/paste).
  • Comfort using a modern browser (Chrome, Edge, Safari).
  • No prior coding experience required.

Assessments & completion
Course completion is based on quiz scores, coding challenges and a short project submission. You must achieve at least 70% on graded tasks to mark the course as complete.
SCORM / xAPI / cmi5 & LTI 1.3
When launched via your LMS, this course can run as SCORM (1.2/2004), xAPI or cmi5 with an LRS, or through LTI 1.3. Completion, scores and key interactions are sent back to your LMS and LRS.
